Let There Be Light
Let There Be Light - 36" x 47"
In the beginning there was the void and that void was Goddess.  Out of the void came into being all that is of the material world including light.  For thirty thousand years the people of Earth held in reverence a divine feminine being who created the earth and who was Earth.

It was the coming of the angry sky god from the cold north some seven thousand years ago that upset this natural order.  The warriors who brought him down into the Fertile Crescent to displace Goddess had horses and weapons, unknown to these agrarians, and they crushed the native people, destroying their culture, their society and their religion. With this new god came death and hierarchy, the “right” of might and the inexorable desecration of all that was sacred.  The holy places were destroyed.  New stories were told, rewriting the old.  Goddess, once the foundation of a complex and advanced civilization, was now subjugated and all Her symbols called evil.

One might say that with the coming of this new “father-god", the light was extinguished.
